Broken glass is dangerous because it goes everywhere. Security film changes that: the pane still breaks, but it stays in one piece, in the frame.
What the Film Does
Safety and security films are polyester, or PET films that are applied to glass and glazing in order to hold them together if the glass is shattered.
The film bonds across the whole face of the pane. When something hits it hard enough to break the glass, the fragments stay stuck to the film rather than flying into the room or the cabin.
It can be retrofitted to buses, cars and buildings, you do not need to replace the existing glazing.
Three Things It Protects Against
Accidents
In a collision, glass that stays bonded to the film cannot spray across the cabin. That matters most in vehicles carrying passengers, which is why buses are a common fit.
Break-ins
Smash-and-grab attempts rely on one quick strike. When the glass will not fall out of the frame, the intruder needs far longer and far more noise to get through.
Injury from flying glass
Most glass injuries come from fragments, not from the impact itself. Holding the pane together removes that risk in homes, schools and offices.
